The electronics company has struck partnership agreements with Mazda and Subaru, promising to supply them with cylindrical lithium-ion power cells for their next-gen EVs.
The partnership is scheduled to begin in 2027. By 2030, Panasonic hopes to upgrade its two battery plants in Japan to yield 30 gigawatt-hours of extra capacity per year. Out of these, Mazda is expected to claim 10 GWh and Subaru the remaining 20 GWh.
