The Alpine A390_β is a concept, but production is coming in 2025
Alpine has unveiled a five-door hatchback called the A390_β. As the name suggests, it’s a “Beta” version of a mass-market car named the A390, scheduled to arrive next year as a more spacious and comfortable alternative to the A110 coupe.
In designing the hot hatch, Alpine drew inspiration from “rocky mountaintops covered with snow and ice.” That’s how it ended up with a sharply sculpted body, eye-catching wheels and headlights, a long rear overhang and a large glass dome. The wheels are sized 22 inches in diameter at the front and 23 inches at the back. It’s still unclear how large the car itself is, but the automaker says it will comfortably accommodate four passengers of any height.
The driver’s seat comes with a dedicated button that changes its position from “daily driver” to “track day” and vice versa. Aside from the seat inclination, it adjusts the position of the pedal unit and the yoke-like steering wheel. Launching the engine is a ritual of sorts, requiring you to take a triangular glass crystal and slot it into the yoke hub.
There are also handy buttons for adjusting hydraulic suspension settings, regenerative braking and infotainment preferences. Last but not least, a button labeled ‘OV’ (for ‘overtake’) lets you briefly unleash the car’s full capacity.
All technical parameters stay secret. What we know so far is that the Alpine A390 has a three-motor electric powertrain with two individual motors assigned one per rear wheel. The company claims it’s the first time anyone uses this drive configuration in a relatively mass-market EV. Intelligent torque control allows for precise torque management.
The car runs on Renault-sourced AmpR Medium platform. It is scheduled for production in Dieppe, France.
