Meet Project Tornado, a 710-PS Porsche 933 Turbo restomod
Gunther Werks showed us a flashy Porsche 993-based custom speedster a year ago, and has now come back with a reworked take on it featuring all-carbon bodywork and unprecedented amounts of thrust.
The body panels are all carbon fiber now except for those on the doors. As a consequence, the car weighs in at 1,225 kilograms (2,700 pounds) – a quarter of a metric ton or 500 pounds lighter than it used to be. In addition to improving acceleration and downforce, this body design has the advantage of faster cooling, which enables tuners to boost the engine past its normal values.
This is exactly what Rothsport Racing did in this project. In its ‘tame’ mode, the 4.0-liter flat-six churns out 608 PS (600 hp / 447 kW), but flick a switch and you will get 710 PS (700 hp / 522 kW) of track-ready performance. Naturally, all this power is still entrusted to a six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels.
Rounding off the modifications are stiff active suspension and Brembo CCMR brakes all around. Pricing and availability haven’t been announced yet, but you can contract Gunther Werks for pre-ordering info.
